Orange, FL : Women dead in car crash near Pine Hills on sunday around 7.p.m June 1st 2014.
Troopers continue to search for the driver who ran a red light before fleeing the scene of a crash that left two women dead Sunday.
The Florida Highway Patrol is reviewing surveillance video they hope will help them positively identify the driver of the SUV involved in the crash at Pine Hills Road and Balboa Drive.
Veronica Williams, 53, and Bessie Anderson, 78, had just left their homes when the car they were in was hit by the SUV at the intersection around 7 p.m. Both women died in the crash.
"These women were neighbors. Apparently they traveled together and they had a green light," said Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said they believe the driver of the black Volkswagen SUV was speeding and ran a red light when he slammed into the car. According to investigators, the driver then jumped from the vehicle and ran.
"He went through there, they never did see him no more," an unidentified witness said.
Authorities said the fleeing driver left behind his passenger, 24-year-old Shane Joseph. Joseph originally claimed she didn't know the driver and said he was a stranger who gave her a ride, but troopers said she later admitted to knowing the man and provided his name. FHP said it discovered the SUV is registered to Joseph's sister.
Meanwhile, family members of Williams and Anderson are grieving after learning of the crash.
"I don't know what to think because I just talked to her Saturday and Sunday evening she's gone," Jennie Daniel, sister-in-law of Anderson, said.
