Columbia County, FL : Missouri man killed, two badly injured in I-75 accident on Saturday morning, July 9, 2016
A 40-year-old man was killed and two passengers left in critical condition after an accident on Interstate 75 in Columbia County late Saturday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Christopher G. Wilson of Canalou, Missouri, died in the crash. Brittany Poole, 26, and Jayden Wilson, 2, both of Sikeston, Missouri, were in critical condition at UF Health Shands Hospital, troopers reported Saturday afternoon. Two other passengers in the car were also injured.
Troopers said Wilson was merging onto northbound I-75 from the emergency lane about 10:35 a.m., traveling across three northbound lanes and causing George A. Young, 45, of Palatka, to steer his Ford F150 pickup truck from the center lane into the left lane, hitting Wilson's Honda Accord. Two other passengers in Wilson's car, an 8-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, were injured.
Wilson, who was not wearing a seat belt, died in the crash, the trooper's report said.
Neither Young nor his three passengers were injured. Everyone in the truck wore seat belts.
FHP officials said interstate traffic in Columbia County near mile marker 415 where the accident occurred was slowed for several hours as troopers investigated the crash.
