Wabash,IN : Roann man dies after ice fishing accident on January, Friday 26th 2018
A Roann man died late last week after he reportedly fell into a pond while ice fishing near Salamonie State Forest, Wabash County Sheriff Bob Land said on Friday.
Officers were called regarding a possible ice fishing accident at 4735 Salamonie Forest Road in Wabash County at approximately 9:51 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, a report from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department said.
The victim, Brian L. Ford, 58, Roann, reportedly left to go ice fishing on a family property near Salamonie State Forest around 11 a.m. last Thursday. After Ford did not return home, his family reportedly travelled to the property to look for him, the report said. Family members called police after locating the victim’s truck and observing a large hole in the pond with ice fishing equipment still sitting on the ice.
Indiana conservation divers were called to the scene and recovered Ford’s body around 11:55 p.m., the report said.
Departments assisting at the scene were the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Police, Lagro Fire Department, Andrews Fire Department, Wabash Fire Department, Wabash County EMA and Wabash County Coroner’s Office.
