Canton,IL : Woman killed Saturday in car crash near Canton on November, Saturday 25th 2017

A woman was killed at 12:30 p.m. Saturday when her car crashed and caught fire while traveling east on Illinois Route 9 between Cemetery Road and Monterey Road near Canton, according to authorities.

The woman’s name was not available Sunday night. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that authorities were still working on a positive identification.

Her 2004 Chevrolet four-door car left the roadway and traveled down a ravine. Witnesses and rescue personnel made several attempts to get her out of the car but could not when it became engulfed in flames, according to the news release.

Fulton County coroner Steve Hines said she was trapped and consumed by the fire. There will be no autopsy.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office personnel were assisted by Canton police, the Copperas Creek Rescue Squad, Canton Fire Department and Fulton County EMS.
