Oakland,MI : Fatal Oakland hills crash on Sunday, 10th May, 2020

A woman passenger was killed and a man driving was badly injured when the car they were in plunged hundreds of feet off an Oakland hills road Sunday evening and landed in a ravine, police said.

Police traffic investigators said Monday it appears speed, along with alcohol and or drugs were factors in the crash.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the woman killed as Marlene Martinez. No address was listed for her. Police had said earlier she was a not an Oakland resident.


The name of the driver, a 23-year-old who is also not an Oakland resident, has not been released and police have not said what the relationship was between the two.

The fatal crash was reported about 6:16 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard at Gateway Boulevard near signpost No. 21.

Upon arrival officers discovered that a silver 2005 Toyota Corolla had been traveling eastbound on Grizzly Peak when it left the roadway, struck a guardrail and tumbled some 400 feet down a hillside into a ravine.

Paramedics pronounced Martinez dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition.
