Dobson, N.C : Semi and car collision sends one to hospital on Monday, July 14, 2014

A driver crashed into a semitrailer on Interstate 70, sending a passenger to the hospital.

Lowell D. Newsome, 40, of Madison, was driving a maroon 2011 BMW westbound at 1:38 a.m. Monday on Interstate 70, four miles west of St. Elmo. Newsome was driving at a high rate of speed behind Oscar A. Roman, 31, of Dobson, North Carolina, who was driving a black 2015 Freightliner truck-tractor.

Newsome was unable to slow down in time and collided into the back of the truck-tractor. The vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

A passenger in Newsome's vehicle, Ayanna K. Williams, 35, of Belleville, was injured in the crash and was transported to Fayette County Hospital. Newsome was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
