SOUTH BEND, IN : Fatal Alcohol Crash on Thursday, June 15, 2017

The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team has identified the moped driver killed in a Thursday morning crash as Joyce Menzie, 74.

The accident occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Eddy Street near Sunnymede Avenue. Witnesses told police that they saw Menzie pull out onto Eddy after being stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Eddy and Sunnymede.

Police say that Menzie crossed through stopped cars in the two lanes of northbound traffic and was struck by a southbound car as she entered the southbound lanes.

Neither the driver of the car involved in the crash nor his passenger were injured. Police say that the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, and that alcohol, drugs or speed are not believed to be factors.
