Oconee County, GA : Crane truck crashes on U.S. Highway 441 in Oconee County on Wednesday, 1st August 2018

A South Carolina man was injured Wednesday morning when his crane truck overturned on U.S. Highway 441 in Oconee County.

Jonathan Lee French, 38, of Dalzell, a small town near Sumter, S.C., was injured when he was ejected through a window as the truck crashed on its side, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

French, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

The wreck occurred at about 9:15 a.m. south of Bishop near the Salem Road intersection while French was driving north. As he rounded a curve, the truck began to rock back and forth and he was unable to correct the truck’s travel, a patrol spokeswoman said.

The truck crashed on the roadside and the crane boom hit several large trees, noted authorities. The wreck caused hours of traffic delay on the busy roadway as workers removed the vehicle.

The wreck was the second involving a large truck this week on U.S. 441.

On Tuesday, near the Morgan County line, a Nissan Altima, driven by Fulton S. Pritchett, 21, of Madison crashed into a Mack truck driven by Maurice Miller, 34, of Savannah, according to the state patrol.

The wreck occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on a curve when the Nissan failed to stay in its lane and it struck the trailer part of the truck, according to the report.
