OCALA, FL : A driver was critically injured in a single-car crash on Tuesday, June 13, 2017

A driver was critically injured in a single-car crash that knocked out a traffic signal in Southwest Ocala early Tuesday morning.

Marion County Fire Rescue crew found 31-year-old Justin Griffis trapped inside of his SUV after a crash at Southwest 60th Avenue and 95th Street Road around 12:45 Tuesday morning.

They say he slammed his Buick Ranier into a concrete pole.

James Lucas said, "Firefighters quickly began extraction efforts by cutting off the roof of the truck and taking off the doors. Then also began rolling back the dashboard to move the pieces away from the driver."

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Griffis was driving southbound, but they don't know why his car went through the intersection and hit the utility pole, snapping it in half.

He was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he's in critical condition.

Griffis' SUV knocked out power to the traffic signal lights at the intersection and crews are working to get the power restored.

Nick Zoller said, "What happens in this type of situation is the county will make the necessary changes and once those repairs are made through our risk management office we'll then attempt to recover those costs from the person's car insurance."
