FLEETWOOD, NC : Dump truck driver averts head on crash on Monday, 7th November 2016
Fleetwood, North Carolina
Two drivers narrowly avoided a head-on collision on Idlewild Road in Fleetwood Monday evening.
That’s according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol’s WP Miller, who said evasive action by the driver of a Radford Quarries dump truck may have averted a disaster.
According to Miller, William Morgan, 56, of Vilas, was traveling south on Idlewild Road in a Honda Pilot sometime before 5:20 p.m. Monday when he crossed the center line just north of Phillips Gap Road into the path of Raymond Cecile, 65, of Wilkesboro, who was traveling north in a dump truck.
“The dump truck driver tried to avoid the crash, went off the road and and ended up in the other lane,” Miller said.
Miller said Cecile’s maneuver turned a likely head on crash into more of a glancing blow, and said both men were only shaken up. Fleetwood firefighters provided traffic control while Miller sorted out the scene. Ashe Medics also responded to the call.
The Jefferson Post will provide further details as they become available.
