Washington County, VA :VSP identifies those involved in deadly I-81 crash on Saturday, July 4th 2015

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Washington County.Virginia State Police has released the names of those involved in a deadly crash Saturday on I-81 in Washington County.VSP has identified the driver of the Toyota as Melissa Itzel Cruz, 22. They said the front seat passenger is Evelyn Sandoval, 16. The children in the backseat are Monica Guevara-Cruz, 7, and Yareli Tejeda, 2. The child that died has been identified as Clarissa Guevara-Cruz, 5.All of the people in the Toyota are from Houston, Texas.According to VSP, the two-vehicle accident happened around 1:00 P.M. Saturday on Interstate 81 near mile marker 32.VSP reports a Toyota crossed over the median and hit an ambulance out of Chilhowie, Va.According to Corinne Geller with VSP, the female adult driver of the Toyota was airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.Geller said a 16 year old passenger was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center, and two other children were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital. Geller said a third child died at the scene.According to VSP, the ambulance was not transporting anyone at the time of the crash and both driver and passenger were not hurt.The crash is still under investigation, but VSP says charges are pending.
