BLUEMONT, VA : Multi-vehicle crash on Va. 7 sends 1 to hospital on Monday, 17th December 2018

Standing by his damaged Tacoma TRD pickup truck that rolled over after a high-speed tire blowout in the eastbound lanes of Va. 7 on Tuesday morning in Clarke County, James Adams was grateful to be alive.

“I just want to go home and hug my baby,” Adams said about his 5-month-old daughter. “I’m just happy my baby wasn’t in the car.”

Adams, 40, of Winchester, wasn’t hurt, but Mark Moger, the driver of a Kia sedan that stopped in the westbound lanes after Adams crashed, was struck by a Ford F-250 pickup and taken to Winchester Medical Center.

Moger, whose age and address were unavailable, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, according to state Trooper Jacob D. Skeith, who is investigating the incident. Skeith didn’t say if any charges would be filed.

The crash occurred about 10:05 a.m., about 200 yards east of River Road (Route 606), where the speed limit in the area is 55 mph. After the rear driver’s side tire of the Tacoma blew out, Adams said he fought to control the pickup, but it fishtailed, struck a guard rail and flipped.

The Tacoma came to rest about 30 yards east of the smashed guard rail in the shoulder of the left lane. Adams was unsure how many times the Tacoma rolled over, but he said a witness told him the vehicle was about 20 feet in the air and rolled multiple times.
