MARBLEHEAD, MA : One dead in crash on Causeway in Marblehead on Tuesday, June 27, 2017

A crash at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Beach Street, near the start of the Causeway, this afternoon has left one person dead.
Marblehead police Chief Bob Picariello confirmed that one man has died as a result of the crash. As of 1:15 p.m., the state police accident reconstruction team was on its way to the scene.Picariello said the crash was reported at about 11:49 a.m. Both of the vehicles involved, a red Nissan Frontier pickup truck and a white Mercedes SUV, sustained heavy front end damage. The airbag in the SUV had deployed, while the windshield of the pickup truck had spidered. Photos from the scene show debris littered across the roadway.
The man in the SUV was killed. The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital, Picariello said. The extent of his injuries is not known.
Marblehead firefighters were also on the scene. The Jaws of Life were used to free at least one person from the wreck, according to reports.
Police have cordoned off the area, and at first had stopped all through traffic. As of 1:15 p.m., police were allowing traffic on and off the Neck.
