MINGO, IA : Three vehicle crash leaves two injuried on Wednesday, 2nd November 2016
A Wednesday morning crash at the intersection of Iowa Highway 330 and U.S. Highway 65/Iowa 117 involved three vehicles and caused two injuries.
According to Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty, the accident was likely caused by a vehicle failing to yield, but the incident is still under investigation and fault has yet to be determined.
Vehicles involved were a black pickup truck, a maroon mini van and a semi truck.
According to semi truck driver Patrick Burke, who watched the accident unfold, the black pickup truck was crossing the intersection heading southeast. As the driver attempted to cross he collided with the side of the minivan driving that was northeast on Highway 330.
The momentum of the crash led the cars to hit the front of his semi. Burke was sitting at a stop sign while the accident occurred. The front of Burke’s semi truck suffered limited damage.
Halferty said the single occupant of the mini van was transported to a Des Moines-area hospital. The extent of the driver’s injuries is not known.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries, but was not transported to a nearby hospital.
The accident occurred at 7:51 a.m. and northeast traffic was brought down to one lane for 45 minutes. A portion of Highway 117 was also closed during that time period as well.
Assisting on scene were Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Transportation, Baxter Police, and fire departments from Mingo, Baxter and Colfax. The sheriff’s office is conducting the investigation.
