Cherokee, SC : One person dead, one injured in fatal crash at 5970 Highway 29 in Spartanburg County on Friday, May 8, 2015

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a fatal crash in Cherokee County claimed the life of one person and left another with life-threatening injuries on Friday.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at 5970 Highway 29 near the Spartanburg County line between one vehicle and one motorcycle, according to troopers. Officials said the 2005 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran off the roadway and lost control.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said 38-year-old Lori Michelle Walker of Boiling Springs was a passenger on the motorcycle. Fowler said Walker was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.
The driver of the motorcycle was also ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Dispatchers said police initiated a traffic stop and the motorcycle refused to yield.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
