St. Petersburg, FL :St. Pete company urges people to take-the-pledge on Friday, July 10th 2015
Saint Petersburg, Florida
A locally-based electrical contracting company in St. Pete “staged” a two car crash on the street right in front of it’s building to prove a point about distracted
driving. That company is Power Design and they told employees the crash was a result of someone texting and driving. “It looked like the cars were smoking and it was a
scary sight to see… The cars were totaled and it looked like nobody made it out OK. It really drove home the message,” said Power Design Executive Assistant Lorraine
Sparra. The staged wreck was part of Power Designs kick-off campaign to get one-thousand people to sign a pledge to “Decide To Drive” and stop distracted driving. Once
they get the first one-thousand signatures, Power Design will donate $10,000 to the organization End Distracted Driving (EndDD.org). “I thought it was pretty awesome,
said Edwin Rodriguez after he was told the accident was staged.“It’s pretty typical of Power Design to go big or go home you know. So when we heard about the pledge
and the campaign it made since to do something so dramatic and drastic to hit the point home” Rodriguez added. “This campaign won’t end with that. This is going to
continue to live and breathe in our organization and if we can continue to impact and influence lives we are going to do that,” said Power Design’s Director of Human
Resources Marlene Velez.
