Victoria, TX : Cause of fatal crash remains unknown on Saturday, 20th August, 2016

Department of Public Safety investigators still have no information about the cause of a vehicle crash that killed five people Saturday.

"(The) only information is that for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the roadway," Sgt. Deon Cockrell, department public information officer, wrote in an email.

The investigation is not complete, he wrote.

Victoria County Justice of the Peace John Miller's office is working to identify the five people who burned in the crash.

A forensic scientist will visit Tuesday to try to identify the vehicle's occupants through dental records and DNA, Miller said.

Five people were headed south on U.S. 77 near Spur 91 and Coleto Creek in a Toyota 4Runner when their vehicle traveled off the roadway and hit an embankment. The vehicle flipped and caught fire, killing all five occupants.
