Two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a crash along Interstate 81 in Carlisle Wednesday night.

Around 5:45 p.m., a 1997 International 4900 belonging to Dave’s Truck Repair and driven by Kenneth Ray Fox, 53, of Fort Littleton, attempted to merge onto I-81 south from the right shoulder and struck a Ford Explorer just north of Exit 47 (Hanover Street), according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The Ford Explorer was traveling in the right lane of the highway and collided with the left rear of the tow truck, police said.

Both vehicles came to a stop on the shoulder of the highway, according to police.

Two passengers in the Ford Explorer – Lillian Ewaka, 75, of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, and Edna Ewaka, 77, of Media, Pennsylvania — were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

David J. Ewaka, 67, of Garnet Valley, who was driving the Ford Explorer, was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, police said.

David Ewaka is in critical condition, according to police.

Police said no one in the Ford Explorer was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Fox and a passenger, Trevor Lee Forsythe, 24, of Six Mile Run, Pennsylvania, were not injured in the crash, according to police.
