Lima,OH : Mendon village employee dies in workplace accident on February, Thursday 15th 2018
An employee in the northern Mercer County village of Mendon died Thursday in a work-related accident.
According to Capt. Martin Emerine of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Mendon utility department, 340 E. Market St., shortly before noon Thursday as the result of a 911 call reporting a man had become stuck in an auger.
Through their investigation, deputies learned that Brendan Poling, 49, an employee for the village and resident of rural Mendon, had climbed inside the bed of a dump truck carrying salt. It is believed Poling slipped and became entangled in the salt auger, where he was later discovered by another village employee.
Poling was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by both the Mendon Fire Department and Celina EMS
