Lownsdale , OR : School bus hit by a car after snow came down fast in Lonsdale while carrying first grade students on Wednesday morning, November 26th 2014
The snow came down fast in Lonsdale this morning, causing limited visibility and difficult driving conditions. Because of the deteriorating weather conditions, a Tri-City United school bus carrying first grade students was hit by a car that lost control on the snow covered roads at Railway Street SW around 9 a.m.
Tri-City United Superintendent Teri Preisler immediately notified first grade parents through the School Reach communication system to let them know what occurred and to inform them that everyone was safe with no injuries reported. Preisler said the bus was struck head on, and when the car slid into the front driver’s side of the bus, the bus then slid into a ditch.
Students were transferred to operable buses sent to the scene. From there, Preisler said the students were transported back to the elementary schools.
The students, teachers and chaperones were on a field trip to the Science Museum of Minnesota when the incident occurred.
At nearly the same time the bus was hit, a winter storm warning for Rice County was issued, and 7-10 inches of snow is predicted by 6 p.m.
