Janesville,WI : Intoxication figures in bad crash on Rock-Green county line on January, Sunday 27th 2018
A driver accused of being drunk was flown to Madison with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, the Green County Sheriff’s Office reported.
One side of Highway 81 was closed at County T on the Green-Rock county line for several hours after the crash, reported at 2:57 p.m.
Colton P. Van Marter 21, of Beloit, was driving south on County T and failed to stop at the stop sign, traveling into the path of a vehicle headed east on Highway 81, according to a news release.
Van Marter’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Robin M. Smith, 52, of Beloit, according to the release.
Both vehicles went into a ditch, and Van Marter hit a signpost and continued into a field, according to the release.
Smith sustained non-life threatening injuries; she wore her seat belt, and the airbag deployed, according to the release. She was transported to a hospital.
Van Marter sustained life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing his seatbelt, and his airbags deployed, according to the release.
Van Marter was cited for second-offense intoxicated driving causing injury, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while revoked and without insurance and failure to wear a seat belt, according to the release.
Assisting at the scene were Orfordville EMS, town of Beloit paramedics, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Brodhead police, fire and EMS, Mercyhealth’s MD-1 and the Green County Highway Department.
