State police a 58-year-old woman died when she drove into the path of an oncoming vehicle on U.S. Highway 61 in West Feliciana Parish. Trooper Jared Sandifer says Sharron Villere, of Jackson, was not wearing a seat belt when she crossed the southbound lane shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, and drove into the path of 60-year-old James Newton, of Winnsboro. Sandifer says Newton's van ran into the driver's side of Villere's car. He says Villere was pronounced dead at the scene and Newton suffered minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
