YORK, ME : York man seriously hurt in crash on April, Tuesday 11th 2017
A Cape Neddick man was seriously injured Tuesday evening in a crash that occurred near the entrance to the Whippoorwill Estates.
According to police, dispatchers received a complaint at 6:23 p.m. from a local store about a male who appeared intoxicated, trying to purchase alcohol. He was later identified as Conrad Gagne, 52, of Cape Neddick. When he left, a store employee took down the vehicle information and gave it to police.
Moments later, the vehicle, a 2004 black Chevrolet Suburban, was spotted by an officer on Route 1. Police report the vehicle was “all over the road and failed to stop for the officer.” The vehicle then abruptly drove toward a telephone pole on the east side of Route 1 by Whippoorwill, just missing the pole, police said.
Shortly thereafter, it struck an embankment, causing it to go airborne and flip over, police reported.
York police, York Beach Fire Department and York Ambulance responded to the scene. Gagne was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The York police accident reconstruction team was called in and the case remained under active investigation Wednesday.
