Bradenton, FL : Two people killed when their SUV collided with a semi-trailer in Manatee County on Wednesday morning, February 3, 2016
Two people in an SUV were killed early today when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
According to the FHP, a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Charles Petterson, 62, of Lula, Georgia, pulling two tandem trailers was traveling south in the left turn lane of U.S. 301 approaching 63rd Avenue East with a green turn arrow at about 2:50 a.m. An Infiniti RX35 driven by Kenneth Jackson, 29, of Palmetto was traveling north on U.S. 301 approaching 63rd Avenue in the right lane with a red signal, FHP says.
The Infiniti drove around another car, failed to stop for the red signal and turned right, entering the intersection, FHP says. The Infiniti struck the right side of the tractor-trailer's first trailer, FHP says, and went underneath the trailer and continued through the intersection, coming to rest on the west shoulder of U.S. 301. The tractor-trailer came to a stop on 63rd Avenue East.
Jackson and his passenger, Daniel Carter, 25, of Sarasota, were fatally injured, FHP reports. Jackson was not wearing a seatbelt and Carter was, FHP says. Petterson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, according to FHP.
