Itasca, IL : Elk Grove Village man dies in construction-zone car crash in DuPage County on Sunday, January 17, 2016
An Elk Grove Village man was killed Sunday after his car hit a semitrailer parked along a ramp in Itasca, authorities said.
Daniel A. Bozowski, 30, was driving a 2003 Honda on the ramp from Interstate 290 west to Thorndale Avenue about 8:50 a.m., according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.
His car collided with the back of a Great Dane semitrailer, which was parked in a construction zone on the left shoulder of the ramp, officials said. The trailer was used to store construction equipment and was not attached to a truck, police said.
Bozowski was pronounced dead at the scene, said Public Information Officer Frank Giovannelli of the Itasca Fire Protection District.
An autopsy will be conducted Monday, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.
There were no other passengers in Bozowski's car, police said.
Traffic was shut down temporarily, but the ramp has since been reopened, Giovannelli said.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
