McAllen, TX : Woman killed in a single-vehicle crash on the westbound expressway Thursday morning, October 27, 2016

Authorities have identified the woman killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning as 23-year-old Alamo resident Edith Martinez.

Officers responded to a report of a crash at about 2:23 a.m. Thursday on the westbound expressway near the Ware Road exit, McAllen police spokesman Lt. Joel Morales said.

Morales said Martinez died as a result of injuries suffered after she struck a roadside barricade.

Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras has ordered an autopsy.

The cause of the crash is unknown and under investigation, police said.
