Loudon, TN : Florida truck driver killed, 2 others injured after a crash involving a tractor trailer truck on I-75 in Loudon County on Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016
One person was killed in a Tuesday morning crash involving a jack-knifed tractor-trailer and another vehicle that left one lane of Interstate 75 North shut down for hours in Loudon County, the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed.
According to a THP accident report, a tractor-trailer driven by 58-year-old Billy Cecil Bailey was traveling north on I-75 when it left the roadway and entered the median. Bailey over corrected, which caused the tractor-trailer to overturn and slide.
The cab of the trailer was blocking the lane, according to the report, and as Bailey attempted to climb out he and the cab were hit by 2015 Chrysler being driven by 77-year-old Nathaniel Simmons.
Bailey was killed.
Simmons and his passenger, 71-year-old Jean T. Jiles, were both injured. Both were wearing their seat belts.
The collision was reported at 3:53 a.m. near mile marker 70.
All northbound lanes were re-opened shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
