MARIPOSA COUNTY, CA : 18-year-old student dies after car crash in Mariposa County on Tuesday, 6th June 2023

The 18-year-old student who was killed in a crash in Mariposa County on Tuesday has been identified.

Officials identified the student as MacKenzie Hunter. Action News has learned the senior was set to graduate.

The California Highway Patrol says Hunter was driving west on Darrah Road near Deer Springs Road in Bootjack shortly after 7:30 pm when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic then down the shoulder, and crashed into an oak tree.

Investigators say Hunter was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
