MOUNT CARROLL, IL : Two people died in separate crash on Tuesday, August 29, 2017
Two people died Tuesday in separate crashes north of Mount Carroll, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department reported.
An unidentified motorcyclist was northbound on state Route 78 just south of Elizabeth Road when he hit a drainage culvert and was thrown from the bike.Deputies came upon the accident around
5:37 a.m., and the motorcyclist was airlifted to FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, then taken to MercyHealth Hospital in Rockford, where he was pronounced dead, the department said in a news release.
No further details were provided.
About 12 hours later, a Mount Carroll woman injured in a three-vehicle crash on state Route 78 near Lowden Road died as she was en route to a helicopter.
Lawrence Andersen, 76, was northbound on 78 at about 5:30 p.m., about to turn left into a private drive when he was struck head-on by a southbound pickup truck driven by Ronald Preston, 72, of Savanna, that release said.
Anderson’s car spun into the northbound lane, where it was struck again by a pickup driven by Tyler Stricker, 25, of Savanna.
