St. Lucie County, FL : One person ejected from vehicle in Turnpike crash Wednesday, February 10, 2016
A person was ejected from a vehicle in a Wednesday night crash on Florida's Turnpike in St. Lucie County, officials said.
A vehicle was traveling southbound just north of the Okeechobee Road exit to Fort Pierce about 10 p.m. when it lost control, hit a guardrail and was hit by a tractor-trailer, said Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney and Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.
One person was ejected from the vehicle and flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce in critical condition, Chaney said. Other occupants of the vehicles were taken to a local hospital, Wysocky said, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.
The area was closed for about an hour and a half after the crash, Wysocky said. FHP officials continued Thursday investigating the cause of the crash.
No further information was available Thursday.
