Greenhill, AL : Lauderdale County man killed in a head-on collision just south of the Tennessee state line on Thursday, April 14, 2016

A Lauderdale County man was killed in a head-on collision just south of the Tennessee state line Thursday, officials said.
Johnathan Appling, senior public information officer with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said Collin Keith McClanahan, 60, Parker Drive, Killen, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Emergency medical personnel at the scene said McClanahan was transported from the scene to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. Officials said he died in the emergency department.
Authorities at the scene said McClanahan was traveling south on U.S. 43 when his car was hit head-on in the southbound lane by a northbound car.
The driver of the other car was not injured. Emergency personnel said she refused medical transport.

Troopers did not have the driver’s name, however, officials at the scene said she was from Colbert County.

Reports indicate the accident occurred around noon just south of Bents ‘N Dents Retail.
“We heard it. It was a loud bang,” Amad Patel, owner of the Stateline Market, said of the impact.
Patel said the wreck caused traffic to be delayed and rerouted around the two cars that ended up several feet apart.

Firefighters with Greenhill and Killen volunteer departments along with the state troopers didn’t clear the scene until nearly 3 p.m.
The collision was so severe McClanahan’s car ended up off the west side of the highway on a dirt access road.

The front of his car was smashed in, pinning him inside where firefighters had to cut him out.
Greenhill Volunteer Fire Chief Barry Gray said the fatal accident was the second wreck of the day for his department to work, along with Killen firefighters.

“It was a long day for our guys,” Gray said. “They had just finished up working a wreck at Lauderdale 364 and Lauderdale 47 when the call came in on the wreck near the state line.
“Before they ever cleared that call, some of them had to leave and go on a full arrest call.”
The fatality is the second in two days in the region. On Wednesday, a Cherokee man was killed when his truck was struck by a Norfolk Southern train on Red Rock Road in Barton.
Both accidents remain under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Quad-Cities State Troopers Post.
