PHOENIX, AZ : Deadly motorcycle crash forces partial closure of the SR 51 in central Phoenix on Monday, 27h May 2024

A central Phoenix freeway was partially closed Monday night after a motorcycle crash that left two people dead.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. on southbound State Route 51 near Bethany Home Road. The Department of Public Safety says the driver lost control of the motorcycle and collided with the concrete median wall.

Both people on the motorcycle were killed. The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified them as 31-year-old Raul Ponce (operator) and 26-year-old Maria Sotelo-Santos, both of Phoenix.

All southbound lanes were closed at Glendale Avenue but reopened around 1 a.m.
