Poland, ME : Amesbury teen killed in Maine snowmobile accident on Saturday, 16th February 2019
An Amesbury teen was killed this weekend in a snowmobile accident in Maine.
Troy Marden, 17, was thrown from a snowmobile after striking a snowbank on Thompson Lake in Poland, Maine, according to Maine officials.
The operator of a second snowmobile tried to render aid to Marden before going to get help, according to a release from the Maine Warden Service. Marden was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred about 10:50 p.m. Saturday on a plowed portion of the lake in an area known as the Heath.
In a Facebook message, Amesbury school officials said there will be grief counselors available at the school Monday.
“It is with deep regret and sadness that we inform you about a tragic loss to our school community. On Saturday, February 16th, senior Troy Marden was killed in a fatal snowmobile accident. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school community,” the post read.
Counselors will be available in the school’s cafeteria from 1 to 4 p.m. for any students, parents or members of the community who need support, according to the post, which said “We are deeply saddened by our loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with Troy’s family and friends.”
