Queens, NY : Woman walking with child critically injured in hit-and-run crash on Seagirt Blvd. and Beach 19th St. on Sunday, December 13, 2015

Police say a woman walking with a child in New York City was hit and seriously hurt over the weekend by an unlicensed driver who fled the scene.

The Daily News reports 23-year-old Denzel Watson was arrested shortly after Sunday's incident.

Police say the woman was crossing a Queens street when a white Mustang hit her. Witnesses say the woman pushed the child away before she was hit. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital with critical injuries.

Watson is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

It's unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
