A 55-year-old Waterbury man was killed in an accident on I-84 Monday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer truck driven by a Stratford man.
Howard Pellagrino, of Edgewood Avenue in Waterbury, was driving westbound on I-84 in Waterbury when his 2013 Canyon GMC pickup truck struck the Greenwood Motor Lines truck.
The Mack truck’s driver was identified as Kazimierz Plaskawicki, 41, of Canaan Court in Stratford.
According to the accident report provided by State Police, the accident happened around 10 a.m. Monday on the lower level of The Mixmaster, near Exit 19 (to southbound Route 8), in Waterbury.
The report said both vehicles were traveling westbound with Pellagrino’s pickup in the left center lane. Plaskawicki’s tractor-trailer truck was in the center lane.
Both vehicles collided “and came to a final rest in the left lane of five.”
Pellagrino, who had earlier lived in Norwalk, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Plaskawicki was taken to Waterbury Hospital for possible injuries.
State police said both vehicles were towed from the scene because of “disabling damage.”
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
