Council Bluffs, IA : No injuries reported in pair of Bluffs school bus crashes on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014
Authorities responded to a pair of school bus crashes in Council Bluffs Tuesday morning.
There were no students on either of the buses, and all drivers were uninjured, according to initial dispatch reports.
The wreck at Iowa Highway 92 and Interstate 29 involved a Lewis Central School District bus, said Superintendent Mark Schweer. He noted the bus had recently dropped off students at school.
Schweer said a truck ran into the back of a car, which then struck the bus from behind. He said the collision caused minimal damage to the bus.
The crash on East Pierce and Frank streets involved a Council Bluffs Community School District bus, according to spokeswoman Diane Ostrowski, who noted the district contracts its busing with First Student. Sgt. Jason Bailey with the Council Bluffs Police Department said the bus driver was at a stop sign and proceeded forward, thinking an oncoming car had a stop sign as well.
Bailey called the wreck a “fender bender.”
An investigation into the crashes continues.
