Washington County , PA : 54 - Years old driver injured after Tractor-trailer rollover crash along Interstate 70 causes long backups in Washington County on Wednesday, February 25th 2015

A tractor-trailer carrying some hazardous materials on Interstate 70 eastbound rolled over and crashed down a Washington County hillside Wednesday afternoon, when its driver lost control about a mile from the West Virginia state line.

The accident near the West Alexander exit in Donegal Township shortly before 1 p.m. completely shut down traffic heading into Pennsylvania for more than an hour. After a lane was reopened, traffic was backed up for miles into West Virginia for several additional hours.

"(An) eyewitness account relays that the truck tractor was traveling in the left hand lane, abruptly made a turn into the right lane. Then lost control, struck the guardrail, taking out 39 segments of guardrail, went over the embankment," Trooper D. Thomas Cegan said.

"The second trailer, which would be considered the full trailer, actually started to go over the hillside, at which time, it dragged the truck tractor and the semi with it over the hillside. The driver has moderate sustained injuries and has been flown to UPMC Presby at this time," Cegan said.
