Phoenix, AZ : Five children injured in Peoria crash on Saturday, November 26th 2016
Seven people, including five children, were injured in a collision at 87th Avenue and Deer Valley Road Saturday night. Three of the children are said to have sustained life threatening injuries, officials said.
The Peoria Police Department along with Peoria Medical and Fire responded to the crash at about 6 p.m., according to police spokesman Ofc. Brandon Sheffert.
Police currently believe a truck traveling northbound on 87th Avenue collided with a minivan traveling eastbound on Deer Valley Road, Sheffert said.
The minivan contained the most of those injured, including the five children. One of the children was flown via helicopter to a nearby hospital, Sheffert said.
One child was ejected from the minivan, Sheffert said. The children range in ages from 6 to 14.
Police are investigating whether the driver of the truck ran a stop sign, causing the collision. The driver of the truck stayed on scene and is cooperating with police, Sheffert said.
Deer Valley Road is closed between 83rd and 91st Avenues. It is expected to remain closed as police investigate.
