CROCKERY TWP, LA : Nunica couple seriously injured in M-231 crash on Wednesday, 23rd January 2019

An elderly Nunica couple suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash late afternoon at the intersection of M-231 and Cleveland Street (M-104) in Crockery Township.The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m.

Clarence Overkamp, 86, was driving north on M-231 with a green light for the intersection with M-104, police said. He attempted to turn left onto westbound Cleveland Street, said Sgt. Mike VandenBosch of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. However, Overkamp failed to see a southbound vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Madisyn Vicanti of Allendale, coming through the intersection.

Clarence Overkamp was the at-fault driver, VandenBosch said.

Overkamp and his front-seat passenger, 86-year-old Clara Overkamp, suffered serious injuries in the collision, VandenBosch said. They were in stable condition when transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, VandenBosch noted.
