Ashland City ,TN : 26 - Years old Rachel Davenport killed and her husband injured after he hit the fire vehicle while driving on Sunday ,April 12th 2015
A woman was killed in a crash in Ashland City on Sunday.
A fire truck and a car collided on Sams Creek Road after 3 p.m., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Investigators identified the woman in the car as Rachel Davenport, 26, of Kingston Springs. Her husband, James 'Anthony' Davenport, was driving the Mustang that hit the fire vehicle.
A crash report indicates that Davenport crossed the yellow line before crashing into the truck belonging to the Ashland City Fire Department.
Friends and family said Rachel Davenport leaves behind two children, Dallas, 6, and Tara, 5.
"The thought that's running through our family is, 'What about her two little children?'" said Davenport's cousin, Jan Hicks. "What do you say to them?"
Hicks said Davenport was like another daughter to her. The young mother had just embarked on a career in health care administration.
"When you lose your loved ones to sickness, you have time to prepare," Hicks said. "But when you lose someone so suddenly, I can't even put into words how horrible it is."
Loved ones created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. As of Monday evening, people had raised more than $2,500.
James Davenport is listed in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The report indicates that unlike his wife, he was not wearing a seat belt.
Investigators identified the firefighters as Matthew Waldron, 34, and Bret Miles, 40. Miles was also hurt in the crash.
