Charlotte, NC : 33-year-old motorcyclist killed in a crash in south Charlotte on Monday night, July 11, 2016

A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash in south Charlotte Monday night.

The wreck happened around 8:45 p.m. on Sharon Road West at Brandon Forest Drive.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Sean Garrett was driving a 2001 Suzuki GSF 1200 motorcycle at a high speed on Sharon Road West, when a Chevrolet Traverse turned left onto the road. The Chevrolet had almost completed the turn when the motorcycle struck the back of it, police say.

The motorcycle spun around, and finally hit the ground. Garrett went to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, CMPD says. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 81-year-old man, was not injured.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.

Garret's family has been notified of his death.
