A 26-year-old man is accused of stealing a car, leading police on a brief chase and causing a four-car pileup in Billings on Wednesday morning.

Travis John Iverson was scheduled to appear in Yellowstone County Justice Court on Thursday. He faces two counts of criminal endangerment, a felony, and four misdemeanors: theft first offense, obstructing a peace officer, driving while the privilege to do so has been suspended or revoked and operating a motor vehicle without liability protection in effect.

Justice of the Peace Jeanne Walker set bond at $50,000.

Police were called to Third Street West and Terry Avenue on Wednesday around 7 a.m. for a report that two people in a Honda Prelude were driving around slowly, with the passenger trying to open doors on parked, running cars, according to charging documents.

After locating the Honda, officers activated their lights and sirens and tried to pull the car over, but it kept driving, heading east on Terry Ave.

Another officer whose car was ahead of the Honda activated his lights, but the Honda drove around that police car, continuing east on Terry Avenue, charges state. The driver failed to obey stop signs at Sixth Street West and Fifth Street West.
