WAKEMAN, OH : Local woman killed in traffic accident on Wednesday, March 22nd 2017
A local woman died this morning following a traffic accident at a rural intersection in Lorain County’s Camden Township.
Wilburn Mullins, 52, of Wakeman, was driving a 2007 Kia Sportage east on Ohio 303 at 7:58 a.m. when he failed to stop at the posted stop signs for the Ohio 511 intersection, leading to a collision with a northbound 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 being driven by Joshua Gereke, 39, of Wellington, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Elyria post.
Both vehicles then traveled off the northeast corner of the intersection, striking a utility pole and a road sign for Ohio 303 before coming to rest in a field.
Joanette Mullins, 50, who was the front seat passenger in the Kia, and Gereke were flown from the scene by a LifeFlight helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.
Joanette Mullins succumbed to her injuries while en transit and was pronounced dead at 9:09 a.m., troopers said.
Gereke is in stable condition at Cleveland Metro.
Wilburn Mullins was transported by Central Lorain County Ambulance to Allen Mercy Hospital in Oberlin with non-life threatening injuries. He was listed is in stable condition at Allen Mercy.
Gereke’s 5-year-old daughter, Kayla, was a rear-seat passenger. She was not injured and was released to her mother at the scene, troopers said.
Seatbelts were worn by all adult occupants, and Kayla Gerke was secured in a child safety seat.
Alcohol and or drug usage is not suspected to be a factor.
At this time, no charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
