Wautoma, WI : Suspect in bicyclist's death turns himself in, February 14, 2015

Waushaura County authorities say a motorist suspected in the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist has turned himself in.

The sheriff's department on Sunday also identified the bicyclist as 56-year-old James Shafer, of rural Redgranite.

Dispatchers got a call about 3 a.m. Saturday about a man who was hit while riding his bike on County Road EE in the Town of Leon. Shafer died at the scene. Police say Shafer was wearing reflective gear and had lights on his bike.

A statement from the sheriff's office says the suspect turned himself in Saturday night and said he was the driver who hit Shafer. He was jailed pending charges, and his vehicle was impounded.
