SUNDERLAND, MA : Police probe Sunderland crash at Route 47 intersection on Sunday, October, 15th 2017
Sunderland, Massachusetts
Police are investigating a two-car crash at the intersection of Hadley Road (Route 47) and Russell Street that sent two people to area hospitals Sunday evening.
Just after 5 p.m., police responded to a collision between a 2017 Chevy Silverado pickup and a 2010 Kia Soul, Sunderland Police Sgt. Brendan Lyons said.
Police learned that both vehicles had been approaching the intersection, with the pickup truck traveling north on Hadley Road and the Kia traveling south on Russell Street. Lyons said the driver of the pickup, a 71-year-old Sunderland man, told police the Kia had not stopped for a stop sign and pulled onto Hadley Road in front of him. He then collided with the front end of the Kia, the man told police.
Lyons said the man sustained a head injury and was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. Lyons said the driver of the Kia, a 62-year-old woman from Hadley, was disoriented and did not seem to know what had happened. She was brought to Baystate Medical in Springfield, he said.
Both drivers were transported by South County ambulance. Sunderland Fire assisted at the scene due to fluids from both vehicles, Lyons said.
