Chesapeake, VA : Box truck crashes, spills diesel fuel, closes highway on-ramp in Chesapeake on Sunday morning, December 27, 2015

The on-ramp from Military Highway to Interstate 464 in Chesapeake was closed for several hours after a box truck crashed and leaked diesel fuel.

Chesapeake Fire Department spokesman Lawrence Matthew tells media outlets hazmat crews were working to control the flow of the fuel leaking from the truck's gas tank after it crashed Sunday morning.

The crash occurred when the truck struck a guard rail on the on-ramp and its fuel tank opened up. Matthews says the fuel spilled over the ramp.

He says the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The ramp was closed for a few hours before a clean-up contractor cleared the area late Sunday afternoon.
