Surry, N.H : State police K9 tracks down driver, passenger after crash in Surry on Monday, November 10, 2014
A man and woman from Vermont were taken into custody after they allegedly fled a crash scene on Route 12 in Surry.
Police charged Darren Lenois, 43, of Bellows Falls, Vermont, with DWI and conduct after an accident.
Police said Lenois was driving northbound on Route 12 near the Keene-Surry town line before 8 p.m. Monday when his 2006 Toyota Highlander swerved off the road, struck a utility pole and came to rest down an embankment.
Lenois and his passenger, Tricia Benoit-Quint, 41, of Bellows Falls, Vermont, then fled the scene before first responders arrived, police said.
State Police Trooper Thomas Byrne, along with his police K9 Storm, eventually tracked down Lenois and Benoit-Quint at the nearby Indian Arrowhead Forest Preserve.
Benoit-Quint suffered minor injuries from the collision and from her exposure to the elements, but refused medical attention, police said. Lenois was not hurt.
Lenois is set to appear in court Wednesday morning.
