Tehama, CA : Chico man arrested for DUI after major injury collision on Tuesday, 18th February, 2020

A 26-year-old Chico man received major injuries during a collision about 9:10 p.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 5 following a pursuit after officers attempted to make a traffic stop.

Joseph Erin Wauseka Forrest was driving a Honda CBR motorcycle south on I-5 at speeds of about 120-140 mph when California Highway Patrol officers tried to initiate the stop and he failed to yield, according to a CHP press release issued Wednesday. A pursuit ensued and Forrest collided with a 2001 GMC driven by Jeffrey White, 36, of Corning.

White had been driving south in the right lane ahead of Forrest at a speed slower than the motorcycle as the two approached the Tehama Avenue over-crossing. Following the collision, Forrest was thrown from the motorcycle, coming to rest on the line between the two lanes of southbound I-5.

Two CHP officers rendered medical aid to Forrest at which time they observed signs of alcohol intoxication. He was placed under arrest on charges of driving under the influence, evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety and driving without a license before being flown to Enloe Medical Center, where he was released to the hospital for treatment.

White and his passengers, Brandie Delong, 36, a 16-year-old boy, 2-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, all of Corning, were not injured.
