Miami-Dade, FL : Motorcyclist sought after FHP trooper seriously hurt in crash in southwest Miami-Dade on Friday, January 30, 2015

A motorcyclist is being sought after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper was seriously hurt in a crash, authorities said.

The crash happened around 8:41 a.m. Friday on the State Road 821 exit ramp to Southwest 120th Street in southwest Miami-Dade.

A witness told troopers a motorcycle was traveling on the right shoulder of northbound State Road 821 in a reckless manner south of SW 120th Street.

The witness then saw Trooper Enrique Gascon pass on the right seconds later. It appeared Gascon was trying to overtake the motorcycle, but Gascon's motorcycle emergency equipment was not on, FHP said.

The motorcycle and Gascon exited on SW 120th Street. Troopers said Gascon was traveling down the ramp close to the right shoulder and traveled on an up-slope curb, causing the motorcycle to go airborne.

Gascon was ejected from his motorcycle, troopers said.

Authorities said Gascon was seen bleeding from his head and suffered serious injuries. Gascon was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

After arriving at the hospital it was revealed that in addition to suffering from facial injuries, Gascon had no movement in his lower body, troopers said.

According to one of the witnesses, the individual on the reckless motorcycle stopped at the red light, waited for the green light and made a right turn onto SW 120th Street.

Another witness told troopers the driver of the motorcycle dismounted the motorcycle, looked back up the ramp, got back on his motorcycle and made the turn onto SW 120th Street.

Witnesses stated the driver of the motorcycle was a white, possible Latin, man who was wearing a black jacket. Troopers said the motorcycle was identified as a black speed-bike that fled westbound on SW 120th Street.

FHP said Gascon has been employed with the department since May 5, 1986 and has been assigned to the Miami, Troop-E Motor's for 26 years.
