Seattle, WA : Driver of truck sought in fatal hit-and-run on First Hill Thursday afternoon on July 31, 2014
Roads are closed near downtown Seattle Thursday afternoon while police investigate a fatal truck-and-pedestrian collision on First Hill.
Police are looking for the truck involved.
The incident reportedly occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the 800 block of James Street, right outside Harborview Medical Center. Seattle police advise access to the hospital will be difficult while officers investigate the scene.
Police spokesmen confirmed that a “large commercial vehicle” hit a pedestrian and dragged the victim for about half a block, causing immediate death.
The vehicle left the scene, Det. Drew Fowler said. Investigators are unsure whether the driver even knew the truck hit anyone.
Police will collect surveillance video to help them track down the truck involved.
Eastbound traffic on James Street is stopped at Seventh Avenue, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation. Traffic headed west on James Street is closed from Ninth Avenue to Interstate 5. The area is a major thoroughfare with access to I-5.
Bus routes 3 and 4 are re-routed around the area, according to King County Metro.
